6. WHY NOT SEND THE LINE OUT VENICE BOULEVARD TO THE BEACH?

Under the state law establishing the Construction Authority, the Expo Line goes to “the downtown of the City of Santa Monica.” The huge number of commuters jamming the Santa Monica Freeway to jobs in West Los Angeles and Santa Monica demonstrate this need!

If and when the “Purple Line subway is extended to Santa Monica, it will provide a faster route from Santa Monica to Downtown, but it will serve a different corridor and a different population– it will not go through Culver City. As in San Francisco, light rail and subways could coexist and thrive.
